Bhutan's annual mountain biking event Tour of the Dragon 10th edition set off in Bumthang on Saturday, September 7th, 2019 at 2:00 AM. Completing the 268 km event in 10 hours, 45 minutes and 53 seconds Pelden Wangchuk, 20 years from Bhutan won the competition.
Tom Schofield, the runner up in the race completed the event in 10 hours, 51 minutes and 28 seconds. The third position was bagged by Sherab Gyeltshen. In the female category, Lois Olney, a 55-year-old woman came in first followed by Chimi Dema. This year’s race saw 53 cyclists, including five female participants.
The course went over 4 mountain passes before finishing in Thimphu town square. It is reputedly one of the toughest one-day mountain bike races in the world.
The ultra marathon mountain biking race is organised by Bhutan Olympic Committee. Registration fees were :- National Registration Fee : Nu. 7,000/-, SAARC Registration Fee : USD 165/-, Expat Registration Fee : USD 165/- and International Registration Fee: USD 250/-.
Next year's 11th Edition of Tour of the Dragon 2020 will take place on 05th September.
