Gurung Museum inaugurated!

A Gurung Museum has been inaugurated 23 May on the popular trekking trail of Lamjung. It has been constructed by the Bhujung Community Home Stay and Tourism Management Sub-Committee. This offers a unique insight into the life and history of this hardy mountain people and adds a new dimension to its tourism activity. 

 

Work started 3 years ago and the Gurung Museum is finally open to the public for viewing. The project is supported by Gandaki province, a German well wisher and the ACAP Annapurna Conservation Area Programme.

 

The 2 story building exhibits the implements used by the locals and include utensils, art work, clothes considered essential to their daily lives. Future plans will be to add more exhibits from different locations of this community. 

 

Bhujung village is situated at a 1,650metres altitude and has a close knit community of around 400 families in an ethnic setting. More than 2 dozen families offer Home stay accommodations for visitors who wish to enjoy a truly ethnic experience.
