Nepali Joint Venture private carrier Himalaya Airlines on 27th October 2019 launched its inaugural flight to Beijing, establishing the first historical direct commercial flight between the capital cities of both countries.

Flight call sign H9 665 took off from Kathmandu's Tribhuvan International Airport and reached Beijing's newly inaugurated Daxing airport at 5:10 pm local time.

The Kathmandu - Beijing flight duration is 5hrs 25mins and Beijing – Kathmandu flight is 6hrs 20mins.  The launch was witnessed by Nepali Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Yogesh Bhattarai and Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Hou Yanqi among other dignitaries.

Minister Bhattarai said this would contribute to Nepal’s target to host 500,000 Chinese travellers as part of Visit Nepal 2020 campaign. The revised air services agreement in July between the two countries has opened up 2 new points for Nepali airlines in 2019 and three more in 2020.

Madam Ambassador Hou Yanqi opioned, “Nepal is an important international tourist destination and it is also the first choice for Chinese tourists among South Asian countries.”

The airline operates a fleet of three A320 planes, with scheduled services to Doha, Abu Dhabi, Dammar and Dhaka. It is set to increase its fleet with the induction of two A319 aircraft early 2020.
