New! Highway Kathmandu to Lhasa opens

The overland highway between Nepal and Tibet TAR has opened now making it possible for International tourists to travel through some of the most fascinating terrains across the Himalayas. The current entry point Rasuwa Gadi on the Nepal side is approx 145kms from Kathmandu.  To the north is Kyirong town in Tibet TAR China approx 30kms away from the border.

On the Nepal side the mountain highway meanders through the Nuwakot valley along the upper reaches of the Trishuli river, up the district HQ of Dhunche before going down towards the border.  On the Tibet TAR side the highway quickly gains elevation to Kyirong county and skirts above Peigutso lake.

Now it will be very convenient for travelers who wish to go overland either towards Lhasa or to make the journey to Mount Kailash a popular destination for pilgrimage and wilderness seeking tourists.
