Nepal's Mount Everest Fashion Runway walks straight into a new Guinness World Record for the highest altitude fashion show. The fashion show took place on 26 January at 5,340 meters elevation at Kala Patthar a popular destination for trekkers on the Everest Base Camp trek.

The event was organized by KASA Style in partnership with RB Diamond, Nepal Tourism Board and Visit Nepal Year 2020 Secretariat.  Models who braved the cold on a sunny day were participants from Nepal, Finland, Italy, Sri Lanka, and Singapore.  The record setting event was also to raise awareness about climate change and highlight Nepal being a destination for all activities. It launched one of the first activities of Visit Nepal Year 2020 campaign.

The designs, patterns and the materials were sourced using Nepali pashmina, felt and yak wool, ideal for winter wear. KASA used bio-degradable designed clothes, shampoo, detergent, waterless bath and solar technology on the trek to ensure participants minimized carbon footprints. The show also displayed jewelries designed by RB Diamond.

Nepali hand crafted pashima, wood, raw silk, natural fibres are hugely popular among visitors looking for souvenirs to take home.  Wood crafts and metal crafts featuring bronze, copper are also much sought after too.  Nepali Tibetan rugs enjoy a good reputation for its composition, intricate designs and durablity.

MTV USA and Canada will telecast the journey in May 2020 of the models's Everest Base Camp trek as a reality show. This is expected to help introduce the country as both fashion and tourism destination all over the world and help in its tourism publicity.  For this project a team of 48 people started their trek from Lukla on 18 January.
