Annapurna Circuit Lodge Trek
This is a most popular trekking area because of its easy access, good trails, interesting mixture of mid-hill Hindu and Buddhist cultures in the higher Himalayan region. A scenic five and a half hour drive or numerous daily flights connect Kathmandu to the gateway town of Pokhara. The itineraries to this area can be customized to allow for side trips to less frequented areas of cultural and scenic significance. The routes are also linked with the option of air travel to the STOL airport at Jomsom.
The trek goes around the trans-Himalayan Manang valley, crosses the Thorong la pass at 5396m and reaches the Kali Gandaki river valley with excellent mountain views of Fish Tail Peak, the Annapurnas and Dhaulagiri. The trek passes through an area with great variations of culture and landscape starting with the mid-hill Bauhun and Chettri communities and at the end of the trail with the Manangey hill people who devoutly observe Buddhist beliefs. You'll get stupendous views of the Annapurna Himalayas as the trail winds towards and around it. The trek ends at the holy Muktinath shrine which sustains an eternal flame and is a revered place of worship for Hindus and Buddhists alike.
