A big day crossing the Yarlung Tsangpo river and visit to Samye the oldest monastery where it is said religious teachers debated about which religion should be adopted in Tibet. Look out for the magnificent Avalokitesvara image and clay image of deities which predate Buddhism.  Samye is designed to look like a "celestial Mandala" from the vantage points of the nearby hills to the east.

Travel westwards to Lhasa city through fields of barley the staple food of the populace and these days "tunnels" growing vegetables and fruits. Check-in to hotel, if upto it, a short walk to Barkhor square will be organized.  Rest and take time to acclimatise.
