A high speed train service along the Silk Road has commenced between western China's Gansu provincial capital Lanzhou and Xinjiang's provincial capital Urumqi. The 250kms per hour train covers 1,776kms between these two cities in less than 12hours. The scenic journey traverses through rugged terrain including vast deserts, the high altitude Qilian mountain range, an ancient section of Great Wall and strong wind zones creating remarkable landforms.
A 67km-long wind-prevent channel will be built near Shanshan as the high-speed line traverses through the 100km wind region of the Gobi Desert.
