SAFGR Nepal Golf Retreat 2nd Edition that took place in Kathmandu from 03 to 06 June 2022 concluded successfully. A total of 62 Golfers and their spouses from Nepal, India and Bangladesh enjoyed the event in a fun filled and packed schedule that included golfing, sightseeing tours and fellowship evenings.
Rtn Parag Sheth, President, SAFGR and Rtn Purna Man Sakya, Event Chair SAFGR Nepal Chapter took pains to put together the event for all to enjoy one of South Asia’s finest golf courses. The competition was marked by great sportmanship and camaraderie.
The Gokarna Forest Golf Course was the venue for the 2 days feast for golfers stunningly set within 470 acres of the centuries old Gokarna Forest Reserve that is an oasis for golfers from around the world. Spread over 140 acres at 4,550 ft. above sea level, the 6,755-yard par 72 course boasts of the only bent grass greens on an 18-hole course in South and South East Asia.
Shyam Simkhada, Joseph Nathan and Sumed Bhattarai won the titles played under stableford 3/4 handicap format. Simkada finished first in 0-9 handicap section with 37 points, while Nathan accumulated 39 points to win the trophy in 10 - 18 category. Likewise, Bhattarai won in the 19 - 28 handicap section with 30 points.
Rabindra Tiwari won the gross section title with 33 points while Norzin Shrestha claimed the women's category trophy on count back after she was tied on 28 points with Aarti Rana, who finished runners up. Dr Karan Singh and Honorary Consul of Mongolia TG Shrestha won the senior and super senior section titles respectively. Norzin Shrestha and Shyam Simkhada claimed the closest-to-the-pin and longest drive awards respectively.
