Calcutta "City of Joy" now renamed as Kolkata is a fascinating destination to experience its rich historical and cultural heritages; the legacy of its colonial past and modern times juxtapose and collide in an exciting mix of old and new. The city never fails to surprise a visitor and merits a week long tour as there are so many sights to see and experiences to savour.
Tour the magnificent Victoria Memorial, the artistic beauty of clay images of Kumartoli, the simple yet serene resting place of Mother Theresa, splashes of vibrant colors in the Flower Market to name a few sights that will etch happy memories of a unique destination. It is now India's second largest city and the country’s undisputed intellectual and cultural capital.
Kolkata is also the gateway to north east India's “hill stations” home to the famous tea growing areas of Darjeeling, former kingdom of Sikkim and the quaint trading town of Kalimpong which can be combined with an overland journey to the mystic kingdom of Bhutan.
