A unique Join-in Departure to see 2 of Bhutan's Tsechu festivities - Wangdi and Thimphu Tsechu 2021 gives individual visitors opportunity to see both Wangdi and Thimphu Tsechu festivals. Tsechus are among the oldest of the Bhutan festivals marked by traditional rituals, masked dances and unfolding of the Sacred "Throngdrul" a giant painting depicting the life of Lord Buddha.  

 

In the calendar of festivals; there are only 2 Tsechus that occur at one time - Wangdi and Thimphu Tsechu.  Wangdi though smaller is in a valley away from urban center drawing more rural pilgrims which lends a touch of authenticity and local flavours.  At Wangdi Tsechu one can witness unfolding of "Throngdrul" a giant depiction of the Buddha's life story. Highlights of the trip are visit to Thimphu Tsechu with its distinctive rituals and a visit to Gangtey valley.

 

Itinerary 12 September - 20 September 2021

 

12 Sep Day 1 Arrive Paro, Bhutan

Arrive Paro, tour Kyichu Lhagang and Paro town, stay at hotel or resort.

 

13 Sep Day 2  Paro tour

Take an excursion hike to view the "Taktsang" Tiger's Nest monastery where legend has it that Guru Rimpoche flew there on a tigress and meditated in a cave where the monastery is built.  Visit Drukgyel Dzong "Victorious Fort" and Ta Dzong Museum holding very unique artefacts of Bhutan's history.  Stay at hotel or resort.

 

14 Sep Day 3  Paro – Punakha, Wangdi Tsechu festival

Drive to Punakha, visit the Wangdi Tsechu festival to enjoy the sacred ritual prayers and masked dances depicting various stages of the religious rites.  Stay at hotel or resort.

 

15 Sep Day 4  Wangdi Tsechu festival

Visit the Wangdi Tsechu Festivities, tour Punakha Dzong venue of the Royal Wedding of Their Majesties and winter retreat of Jhey Khempo Chief Abbot of the country.  Stay at hotel or resort. 

 

16 Sep Day 5  Wangdi – Gangtey

Before dawn observe the unfolding of the sacred "Thongdral" at the venue and take in the blessing of this auspicious occasion.  Drive to Phobjika valley, visit the gilt roofed Gangtey monastery with its exquisite woodworks, manor farm guest house or home stay.  If lucky catch a glimpse of the Black Neck Cranes here their winter home.  Stay at hotel or resort.  Those who enjoy an immersive cultural experience there are fine Home Stays with their charming hosts.

 

17 Sep Day 6 Gangtey – Thimphu

Take a walk to visit a typical village home here, farmers grow the most delicious potatoes and buckwheat in this part of the country.  Enjoy a “one on one” Q & A with a farmer and the household.

Drive to Thimphu the bustling capital city, visit the Memorial Chorten and later step in to the Handicraft Emporium with its many Bhutan made souvenirs.  Stay at hotel or resort. 

 

18 Sep Day 7 Thimphu  

Today visit the last day of Thimphu Tsechu festivities in the court yard of the imposing Tashi Chhodzong seat of the Royal Government and enjoy the celebrations in a different setting.  We will also visit the giant Dordema Buddha statue and Takin Enclosure to see the national animal.  Stay at hotel or resort. 

 

19 Sep Day 8 Thimphu – Paro

Visit Simply Bhutan, Zorig School of Handicraft and traditional Paper Workshop.  Enroute stop by to see the first Iron Bridge of the country.  Arrive in Paro, relax and option to enjoy a typical Bhutanese “stone bath”.  Farewell dinner in the evening.  Stay at hotel or resort. 

 

20 Sep Day 9 Paro departure

Transfer to airport for onward departure.

 

We will assist in the flight booking to Join-in from any one of these cities using Druk Air or Bhutan Air flights from Bangkok, Delhi, Kathmandu, Kolkata or Singapore.  Please book your Pre and Post Bhutan hotels and flights.
