Trip Grade:
The Manaslu Circuit is an ancient trail opened for camping treks with villages having unspoilt cultures and is naturally well conserved. Begin trek along the Buri Gandaki valley and ascend gradually towards the Base Camp close to the Tibet China border, cross Larkya la pass 4878m and follow the Marshyangdi Valley. The lower hill communities of Bahun, Chettri give way to Gurungs and Tibetans in the higher valley. It is the most popular restricted area trek and in wilderness environment.
Itinerary / Graded Challenging
Day 1 : Arrive Kathmandu, permit formalities, explore city.
Day 2 : Drive from Kathmandu to Arughat, start trek, camping throughout.
Day 3 : Arughat to Soti Khola, 5 hours, 800 metres
Day 4 : Soti Khola to Machha Khola, 5 hours, 1000 metres
Day 5 : Machha Khola to Jagat, 6 hours, max. 1400 metres
Day 6 : Jagat to Deng, 6 hours, 1860 metres
Day 7 : Deng to Ghap, 3.5 hours, 2095 metres
Day 8 : Ghap to Namrung, 4 hours, 2600 metres
Day 9 : Namrung to Lho, 4 hours, 3100 metres, or to Shyala, 3500 metres
Day 10 : Lho to Samagaon, 2 hours, 3500 metres
Day 11 : Rest day in Samagaon – optional Manaslu Basecamp excursion
Day 12 : Samagaon to Samdo, 4 hours, 3800 metres
Day 13 : Rest day in Samdo – optional excursion to Tibetan border
Day 14 : Samdo to Larkya Phedi , 4 hours, 4460 metres (For Lodge trek please note that this lodge may close during November. If accommodation is not available a very early start from Samdo and long day of walking is necessary to reach Bimtang.)
Day 15 : Cross Larkya La 5106 metres to reach Bimtang, 8 hours, 3700 metres
Day 16 : Bimtang to Tilje, 6 hours, 2100 metres
Day 17 : Tilje to Jagat, 6 hours, 1300 metres
Day 18 : Jeep from Jagat to Besisahar, and onward transport to Kathmandu or Pokhara.
Day 19 : If in Pokhara, return by flight to Kathmandu.
Day 20 : Departure Kathmandu.
This trek can also be done the no-frills way using using tea-houses which are very basic in this area as there are less trekkers on this trail.
A side trek to Tsum Valley rich in Tibetan culture can be included by an additional 7 days trek.
