Culture and Mountain Views

 

This 5 day sightseeing tour of cultural heritage in Kathmandu valley will spend overnight in a mountain resort in Dhulikhel or Nagarkot away from the hustle and bustle of the city.  The journey itself is an introduction to the scenic rural landscape within a short distance away. Views of terrace farmlands, rolling hills and snow capped mountains can be seen on clear days.

 

Itinerary :

Day 1  Arrive Kathmandu. 

 

Day 2 Tour to Pashupatinath temple, Bodhnath stupa and the city of Patan : All three destinations are enlisted as a UNESCO protected Heritage site. 

The Pashupati shrine is the most sacred for Hindus and it is a must visit during ones lifetime. Walking along the complex one can view the many temples, ashrams and inscriptions erected over the centuries. Situated on the sacred Bagmati river bank, it is where cremations take place. Bodhnath is the largest Buddhist stupa in Nepal, famed for its unique "teardop shape" and is surrounded by monasteries of different sects. At anytime there are many pilgrims with their worry beads circumambulating around this beautiful stupa. Patan is renowned for its many squares built by the Malla Kings and master craftsmans. Visit the Golden Temple, Patan Palace Square, Museum, stupa of the Thousand Buddhas and the hand weaving carpet displays.

 

Day 3  Short drive to the country side mountain resort either in Nagarkot or Dhulikhel, en route tour the ancient city of Bhaktapur a famous UNESCO World Heritage site : Bhaktapur is a medieval town shaped like a conch shell with an area of 6 sq kms, a living museum with some of the valley’s finest art and architecture. Founded in AD 889 by King Anand Malla, its has many palace squares with exquisite artwork in wood and bricks. Visit the clay potter square and painters at work.

 

Day 4  Return to Kathmandu, PM at leisure.  Or loose yourself in the many souvenir shops and book shops of Thamel tourist district.

 

Day 5 Transfer for departure.
