China has further announced its visa-free policy extension to more nationals of these countries; Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Spain, Switzerland and the Netherlands. The visa-free scheme will be valid from date May 2024 until 31st December, 2025.  Nationals from these countries holding ordinary passports can be exempted from visa to enter China and stay for a period of 15 days for business, tourism, family visit and transit purposes.

Currently, most travellers need a visa to enter China with the exception of citizens of Singapore and Brunei, who do no require visa to enter China for business, tourism, family visits and transit of upto 30 days.  Earlier in November 2023, China expanded its visa-free transit policy to 54 countries to include citizens of Norway.

Since March 2023 China began issuing all types of visas again. Tens of millions of international tourists visited China each year prior to the pandemic.
