Birdwatching in Bhutan is unique in the diversity of resident and migrant species. From the high Himalayas, mid-hill valley to sub-tropical lowland forests of the Manas Wildlife Reserve, the variety of birdlife is nothing short of spectacular. This wide geographic and habitat range gives it an amazing bird diversity population. As more than 70% of its land is forested, the Manas Wildlife Reserve is prime birding country.
Take a journey in either direction from west to east or vice versa to enjoy birdwatching in and around the habitat of the birds. Migratory birds come from across Central Asia to their winter homes in the milder climate of Bhutan's mid-hill valleys; endangered Black-necked Cranes, Ruddy Shell Duck, and Bar-headed Geese. Resident species include among others; babblers, sunbird, bird of paradise, raven, Giant Hornbill, Grey Hornbill, and flycatchers to name a few.
Truly a birdwatcher's paradise, Bhutan is home to more than 700 species. Travel across the width of the country and traverse north to south to encounter these special denizens. Choose a bird watching trip in Bhutan and enjoy a memorable experience!
